RABBITS AS COMPANIONS
Rabbits can live to be 8-10 years of age. A rabbit in the family is a commitment!

Rabbits do not make good pets for children under 8 years of age.
Rabbits can be litterbox trained, but they require different litter than cats.
Pine and Cedar Shavings can kill a rabbit.
Rabbits do shed like cats and dogs. You must be able to withstand a few more "dust bunnies" in addition to your pet bunny!
Rabbits do not need yearly shots, but should have regular vet checks.
Rabbits do not need baths.
Domestic Rabbits will probably not live very long out of door, even if they are hutched. They can literally scare themselves to death. In addition the temperature extremes are too great for them.
Rabbits need to be spayed or neutered to improve health and behavior.
Most rabbits do not like to be held. They prefer to sit beside you.
Rabbits like to play with toys. These can be as simple as a cardboard box or the discarded paper towel roll stuffed with hay; they can be wire and hard plastic cat balls, hard plastic baby keys; chewers will appreciate untreated willow baskets, diggers might like a box filled with newspaper shreds, shredders enjoy old phone books, the list goes on and on!
