BONDING YOUR BUNNY:
First step is to spay or neuter your rabbit! The only time we will adopt out or to an unaltered rabbit is with the advice of a rabbit-savvy veterinarian, and only in response to age or health of the unaltered rabbit. One rabbit in the pair MUST be altered, NO EXCEPTIONS!
The bonding will have the best chance of success with a rabbit of the opposite sex. Same sex bonds, while they can occur, are very fragile and you most likely will run into trouble somewhere down the road. We do not recommend even attempting a same sex bond.
Your bunny will need to be involved in picking out its friend. Trust us, this is extremely important! Bunnies can have very definite opinions about who they like and don't like! Besides, how would you like an arranged relationship?!? You do have some say however--we will start with the buns you like best and hope one of those fits the bill!
We meet you in neutral territory, put your rabbit in a pen and begin the introduction process. Ideally your bun and its potential mate will fall instantly in love, but this is the exception rather than the rule. More often than not you will have some work to do when you take your bunnies back to the original territory. Even with perfect matches there can be some effort required with the introduction to territorial space. We will discuss this in depth with you while the match is occurring. We do offer to house the bunnies in one of our foster homes while the bonding is taking hold if you are more comfortable with that..
Please contact us if you are considering a match for your bunny. We are happy to talk to you about getting ready for the bond, and the second rabbit, in addition to what you can expect after. Please DO NOT just show up at one of our adoption days with your rabbit.
