Bunny Magic

Bunny Magic is a not- for- profit 501(c)3 organization offering sanctuary to companion indoor rabbits. Our mission is to find quality indoor homes where these rescued and abandoned animals can live out their lives in peace and comfort with the love of an adoptive family. Bunny Magic also offers education to rabbit owners who wish to improve their relationship with and care of their pet.

Bunny Magic's first consideration are the numerous rabbits that have reached their last line of defense in local shelters and for whom we are the only hope. Bunny Magic has rescued rabbits in the care of several shelters in the Maryland and Northern Virginia area including Prince George's, Baltimore, Montgomery, Fairfax, Stafford, and Calvert Counties, the cities of Richmond, Annapolis and Alexandria and the Maryland Eastern Shore.

The Bunny Magic sanctuary is located in Lusby, Md. Foster rabbits are housed in Alexandria, Virginia. Bunny Magic currently houses over 150 bunnies between the shelter and foster care. While you might consider this an excessive number of rabbits we feel that as long as we are able to keep the rabbits housed in a clean cage appropriate for their size with litter boxes, toys and something to sit on besides wire, give all required medical care, provide fresh water daily and as needed, feed a healthy, balanced diet, and give the buns attention and socialization we will continue to rescue. Our new additions are quarantined until we are sure they are not ill, and sick rabbits are always isolated to avoid contamination of others. We will provide references upon request.

No rabbit is ever euthanized unless our vets consider it medically necessary. Bunny Magic is a rabbit sanctuary: If a rabbit is never adopted, it is welcome to live its full life here. If we consider a rabbit unadoptable due to behavioral or medical challenges, or if due to age we expect that the rabbit will live with us for a considerable length of time, we introduce it to other bunnies in the same situation and allow them to spend their days as a member of a bonded group or pair.

Individuals who are considering turning their rabbit over to foster care should contact us. We will provide assistance in hopes of solving the problems causing the rabbit to be given up, and if no other option is available, we will do our best to assist in finding quality homes for their rabbits.

Carole Van Wie, President of Bunny Magic, is a licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator in the state of Maryland. She has over 15 years experience in rescuing rabbits. Laura Roland, VP of Bunny Magic, has been working with Carole since April 2000, when, while adopting her bun a companion, she mentioned that if Carole ever needed any help, she might be available.
